Velebit Hiking Trail
This 5-day Hut-to-Hut hiking tour in Croatia is designed for travelers who want more than just a short mountain hike. It combines the best of Velebit Mountain with the spectacular landscapes of Paklenica National Park on the Adriatic coast (it’s part of the Velebit Hiking Trail).
The first three days follow the famous Premužić Trail, a legendary mountain path that runs along the ridge of Velebit. From here, you enjoy open views over the sea and islands on one side, and deep forests and wild karst landscapes on the other. The trail is well built and not steep, making it perfect for beginners, recreational hikers, and active travelers.
After completing the hut-to-hut section, the tour continues to Paklenica National Park, one of Croatia’s most dramatic natural areas. Here, huge limestone cliffs rise above a narrow canyon, creating a completely different hiking experience — greener, warmer, and closer to the sea.
This tour is perfect if you want to experience Croatia’s wild mountains and its Mediterranean coast in one adventure.

Self-Guided Hiking with Support + Guided National Park
Days 1–3 are self-guided with full support. You hike at your own pace using a clearly marked route and an easy-to-use navigation app.
A support guide transports your luggage by vehicle, meets you at each overnight location, helps with meals when needed, and is always available for logistics, questions, and assistance.
Days 4–5 in Paklenica National Park are fully guided, so you can enjoy the canyon, nature, and scenery without worrying about navigation.
DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1: Northern Velebit & Premuzic Trail
Early morning pickup in Zagreb (other location on request) and transfer to the starting point of the Premuzic Trail in Northern Velebit.
You begin your hike along one of the most beautiful mountain paths in Croatia, with wide views over the Adriatic Sea and islands. The trail is gentle and scenic, making it a perfect introduction to Velebit.
After about 5–6 hours of hiking, you arrive at Alan Mountain Hut, where you enjoy dinner and spend the night in a traditional mountain hut.
Hiking: 5–6 hours

DAY 2: Deeper into Velebit
After breakfast, you continue hiking along the Premuzic Trail through open ridges, rocky landscapes, and quiet mountain meadows.
This is a longer hiking day with constantly changing views and a strong feeling of wilderness.
You finish the hike near Skorpovac, followed by a short transfer to a mountain hostel where you can enjoy a warm shower, dinner, and a comfortable night.
Hiking: 6–7 hours
Night: Mountain hostel

DAY 2: Deeper into Velebit
After breakfast, you continue hiking along the Premuzic Trail through open ridges, rocky landscapes, and quiet mountain meadows.
This is a longer hiking day with constantly changing views and a strong feeling of wilderness.
You finish the hike near Skorpovac, followed by a short transfer to a mountain hostel where you can enjoy a warm shower, dinner, and a comfortable night.

DAY 3: Hiking to Baške Oštarije & the Coast
Today’s hike is easier and more relaxed. You walk through forests and open mountain pastures toward the small mountain village of Baske Ostarije.
Here you enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and celebrate the end of your hut-to-hut adventure.
After lunch, you transfer to Starigrad Paklenica, a charming seaside town at the entrance of Paklenica National Park. Enjoy a free evening by the sea.
Hiking: 4–5 hours
Night: 3* guesthouse in Starigrad
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch
DAY 4: Paklenica National Park
You hike up through the spectacular Paklenica Canyon, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, waterfalls, and lush vegetation. This is one of Croatia’s most impressive hiking areas and a complete contrast to the open landscapes of Velebit.
After about 4 hours of hiking, you reach a mountain hut inside the park, where you spend the night.
Hiking: approx. 4 hours
Night: Mountain hut in Paklenica
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
DAY 4: Paklenica National Park
You hike up through the spectacular Paklenica Canyon, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, waterfalls, and lush vegetation. This is one of Croatia’s most impressive hiking areas and a complete contrast to the open landscapes of Velebit.
After about 4 hours of hiking, you reach a mountain hut inside the park, where you spend the night.
Hiking: approx. 4 hours
Night: Mountain hut in Paklenica
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
DAY 5: Canyon Hike & Return
After breakfast, you hike back down through the canyon, enjoying the last views of the cliffs and forested valleys.
In the afternoon, your transfer takes you back to Zagreb (or another location on request).

NOTES ON PRICES
– Prices are fixed in Euros
If you wish to pay in another currency than the Euro, the exact value will be calculated according to the exchange rate of the Croatian National Bank on the day of booking.

Please note that all children must be at least 6 years old and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to participate in Hut to Hut Hiking Croatia adventure.

DETAILS – Best of Velebit Hut-to-Hut
- Group size: 2-8 persons (we usually work with small groups in order to provide high quality service, but we can also accommodate bigger groups on request).
- Feel free to contact us for a quote in case you are interested in a private trip.
- You are welcome to bring your own sleeping bag or rent it from us. The price of the rental is 20 € for the trip (2 nights).
- Meals: You’ll enjoy homemade meals at a mountain hut, and your guide will also prepare some of the meals. This tour includes 4 breakfasts, 3 dinners and 1 lunch. Please let us know in advance if you are vegetarian, vegan, or have any special dietary requirements.
- Accommodation: Croatian mountain huts are simple but very atmospheric and authentic. Instead of hotels, you will stay in traditional mountain lodges located in remote and beautiful natural surroundings. Rooms are shared dormitory-style, and bathroom facilities are shared with other hikers, which is standard for hut-to-hut hiking across Europe. What makes the experience special is the peaceful mountain setting, friendly hosts, and the unique feeling of staying high in the mountains, far from busy tourist areas.
