While we like to say that we will conquer a mountain, Velebit is a kind of a mountain that conquers its visitors.
Paklenica National Park covers the area of torrent flows of Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica, and their distinctive canyons carved vertically into the south slopes of Velebit and the broader surrounding area. The relatively small area has an abundance of geomorphological phenomena and forms, diverse flora and fauna, attractive landscapes and intact nature. Diverse habitats in the area of Paklenica, along with elevation stratification, provide a home for diverse fauna.
Distinctive features of Paklenica National Park are autochthonous forests of black pine, several types of beech forests and deep canyons with torrent flows of Velika and Mala Paklenica. Wider area of Paklenica National Park prides itself with rich and diverse cultural heritage. Apart from being a paradise for hikers, Paklenica is also a well known climbing destination that attracts visitor from all over the world.
This unique trip will take us to explore this amazing area on foot and hike to the highest peak of Velebit Mountain. Nights will be spent in an authentic mountain hut overlooking the canyon. We promise you an adventure you will never forget!

- Day 1: Arrival and hiking in Paklenica National Park

DETAILED ITINERARY:
Day 1: Pick up in Zagreb or Zadar and start of the hike
The adventure starts with picking you up at your accommodation, city location, or airport in Zagreb or Zadar and driving to Paklenica National Park.
The National Park encompasses one of the most beautiful parts of Velebit Mountain – the small and the big Paklenica canyons and their surrounding area. We will hike the big one (Velika Paklenica) and make our way to one of the nicest huts overlooking the canyon. The mountain hut is situated at 555 m (1820 ft) and offers 4 dormitories for up to 23 persons.
We will not miss trying the famous traditional meal “under the bell” prepared by our cheerful hosts.

Driving: 3 h from Zagreb, 1 h from Zadar
Day 2: Hiking to the highest peak of Velebit Mountain
After a good night’s rest we will wake up refreshed and ready to conquer the highest peak of Velebit Mountain – Vaganski Vrh (1752 m or 5748 ft) which is also the third highest peak of Croatia. If you feel like hiking less, we can choose one of the other surrounding peaks. Anyway we will enjoy some great views and fresh air.
After the hike we will come back to our mountain hut and relax some more in homey atmosphere.

Day 3: Descent
Today we head down with the option of visiting Manita Cave or hike some smaller peak within the national park, depending on your wishes. Optional climbing.
