DETAILED ITINERARY – Slovenia Multisport Adventure

Day 1: Arrival to Zagreb or Ljubljana

Arrival to Zagreb or Ljubljana and transfer to your accommodation in Bohinj Lake area, green oasis in the heart of Triglav National Park.

Lake Bohinj is the largest natural lake in Slovenia. Nestled in the heart of the Julian Alps, this jewel is a precious natural resource and at the same time offers endless opportunities for outdoor activities.

In the evening we will meet for a welcome drink and dinner to get to know each other and talk about our upcoming adventure.

Night: Bohinj Lake area
Driving: 1h30 from Ljubljana airport, 3h from Zagreb airport
Day 2: Vogel hiking

After a good night’s rest we start our first activity day with a cable car ride up to Vogel.

Without doubt Vogel is one of Slovenia’s best ski resorts, offering a beautiful position overlooking stunning Lake Bohinj. Once we arrive to Vogel with the cable car we will explore the area on foot and enjoy some amazing views over Bohinj Lake and the Alps.

Depending on your wishes and abilities we will choose one of the offered trails (Vogel peak or some smaller peaks nearby).

Night: Bohinj Lake area
Driving: maximum 20 minutes each way; Hiking: 5-6 hours for Vogel peak
Day 3:  Biking around Lake Bled and to Vintgar Gorge

Lake Bled is definitely one of the most popular natural attractions of Slovenia located in the Julian Alps. Bikes will take us on the trail around the lake that leads to sightseeing rises – Castle Hill and nearby hills with splendid views over Bled Island and Karavanke Mountains in the distance. A fun fact is that Bled Island it is the only natural island in Slovenia. Just under an acre in size, it now houses several buildings, including a 17th-century church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. You can take an optional boat ride to the island if you feel like it. During the summer you can cool down in the lake or just chill on the Castle beach.

Not far from Lake Bled there is a 1.6 km long gorge connected with wooden bridges and viewing galleries among waterfalls, pools, and cascades. A stone, single-arch, former railway bridge also towers above the Vintgar Gorge. We will use bikes to get there and enjoy a walk in the gorge admiring its unique flora that will definitely enchant you.

If you feel like it, we can extend the tour and start biking from Bohinj Lake to Bled Lake and back, in that case the biking distance will be 50 km (30 mi).

Night: Bohinj Lake area
Driving: 30 min each way; Biking: 10 km (6 mi); Walking: 1-2 h
Day 4:  Triglav Lakes Hiking

The Valley of the Triglav Lakes or the Seven Lakes Valley is praised as one of the most beautiful parts of the Julian Alps since the beginning of mountaineering. The Valley has been protected as a national park since 1924 and boasts a varied terrain, interesting flora and fauna, fossils and Alpine animals. It is also known for its well-developed karst phenomena.

We will enjoy a hike in an amazing setting and have a rest in one of the authentic mountain huts. The duration of the hike will depend on your wishes and abilities.

Night: Bohinj Lake area
Driving: maximum 30 min each way; Hiking: 2-10 h
Day 5:  Triglav National Park Hiking – Vrsic Pass

Today we say goodbye to Bohinj and head to our next destination – the Soca River Valley. To get there we will have to drive over Vrsic Pass, the highest road pass in Slovenia. The road, built by Russian war prisoners during the 1st world war, runs through the heart of Julian Alps and the views from the road simply call out for a stop-over. It’s also the start point of our today’s hike to Slemenova Spica peak at 1911 m (6270 ft). A longer version is a hike to Mt Mala Mojstrovka (2332 m/7650 ft) which is one of the most quickly accessible and consequently most visited 2000-meter peaks in the central Julian Alps.

Apart from amazing alpine peaks that we will get the chance to observe during the hike, driving towards our next destination we will also get the chance to see the Soca River Valley from above and admire its full beauty. We can also decide to visit the Soca River source on the way down from the pass. In the evening we will settle in one of the guesthouses in Bovec town area situated in the valley.

Night: Soca River Valley
Driving: 2h30; Hiking: 2-3 h Slemenova Spica hike or 4 h Mt Mala Mojstrovka hike
Day 6:  Soca River Rafting. Kozjak waterfall.

This first morning we wake up in the most beautiful river valley of Slovenia in the heart of Julian Alps and enjoy rafting on the Soca River, a worlwide known rafting destination.

The alpine peaks surrounding the valley and emerald green water create a perfect setting for the start of our whitewater adventure. The Soca River attracts beginners and experienced paddlers from all around the world because it offers many different and exciting river sections ranging from class 2-5.

If you feel like it, after rafting we will visit nearby Kozjak waterfall and walk along Kobarid historical trail.

In the evening we can reward ourselves with a refreshing drink in a local pub in the charming town of Bovec.

Night: Soca River Valley
Driving: 30 min maximum; Rafting: 2-3 h; Optional walk: 2 h
Day 7:  Postojna Cave or Skocjan Caves visit

We leave the Soca River Valley behind and explore the inevitable caves of Postojna or Skocjan depending on your choice.

Postojna is definitely the most popular one. It’s the largest show cave in Europe. While touring the 24-kilometre-long cave system (14 mi), you will get to feel the magic of the underground world and experience a one-of-a-kind ride on Postojna Cave’s underground train. From the magical depths of Postojna Cave make your way to the fairytale world of knights. The Predjama Castle is another must-see Postojna Cave Park attraction – a veritable medieval miracle, perched in the middle of a rocky cliff for 800 years. Its unique location makes it one of the most fascinating castles in the world.

Skocjan Caves on the other hand are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This exceptional system of limestone caves comprises collapsed dolines, some 6 km (3 mi) of underground passages with a total depth of more than 200 m (656 ft), many waterfalls and one of the largest known underground chambers. The site, located in the Kras region (literally meaning Karst), is one of the most famous in the world for the study of karstic phenomena.

After visiting the caves we will head to the Slovenian capital city Ljubljana and spend the last night enjoying its charming streets, restaurants and maybe nightlife.

Night: Ljubljana
Driving: 2 h to the caves + 1 h caves-Ljubljana
